Description
Basgaid Lus an Leanna (Basket of the Beer Plant)
This ultra-traditional basket was made straight from the book called “The National List of Basic Wage Rates in the Basket Industry 1956”, so this design was actively being made and distributed around UK hop farms during this time. The measurements are exact to the book for a half bushel basket, and after testing I can confirm it holds exactly half a bushel (18 litres). Nowadays, it would fit the modern home perfectly as a kindling or waste-paper basket, with a utilitarian vibe reminding us of times gone by. Varieties used in this basket are Harrison’s and Dicky Meadows.
Dimensions –
height (at top of handles) – 38cm/15in
height (at the border) – 33cm/13in
outside width (at the top) – 38cm/15in
outside width (at the base) – 25cm/10in
Please note: this basket was designed so that the maker could throw out many examples per day for the agriculture industry – it features a rough weave called a slew and a very small upsett (esentially the foundation of a basket) so I cannot offer my usual warranty on this basket as they were designed to be used until they dropped to bits, then replaced entirely. This is reflected in the price. This basket is also old stock, and was an experiment when made so it is on sale.
